11 Stand-Up Specials by Latinx Comedians You Can Watch on Netflix
/Nothing like winding down with a cold beverage and a lot of laughs after a long day, especially when the laughs come from relatable topics like your Latinx upbringing, Vicente Fernández, your mamá, the nail salon chisme, and many other situations that any Latinx has lived through.
If you don’t know where to look for your next stand-up special by a Latinx comedian, you can start with Felipe Esparza: Bad Decisions, or Felipe Esparza: Malas Decisiones. This is Esparza’s first Netflix Original comedy specials, filmed in California as two separate performances — one in English and one in Spanish, para que nadie se sienta left out.
The specials dig into Esparza’s past and weave difficult childhood anecdotes as well as adult life oops in his edgy humor that won him the title of Last Comic Standing in 2010. Bad Decisions/Malas Decisiones mark the first time a Netflix comedian has recorded a stand up special in two languages that are set to be released simultaneously.
Tom Segura: Ball Hog
Got any uncomfortable stories about mamás, papás, following your dreams, and other things you’d rather not talk about? Tom Segura: Ball Hog will take them to the extreme with his candid anecdotes that will have you laughing hasta más no poder.
Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias: One Show Fits All
Having un hijo adolescente is no piece of cake and Gabriel Iglesias will take us through the ups and downs of parenting a teenager, his encounters with Snoop Dogg, Chris Rock, and, wait for it… Vicente Fernández.
Aida Rodriguez in Tiffany Haddish: They Ready
Growing up in the hood will prepare you for life, and Aida Rodriguez has some anecdotes that she turned into a very real, yet hilarious routine where she addresses her rebelde years, the useful lessons she learned from her upbringing, and shares sharp commentary about society, as well as the #MeToo movement.
John Leguizamo’s Latin History for Morons
John Leguizamo tells it like it is. In this one-man Broadway show, Leguizamo traces 3,000 years of Latin history in an outstanding, hilarious, and incredibly accurate performance in an effort to help his son who’s being bullied at school.
Tom Segura: Disgraceful
Do you know all those things we think but would never dare to say because our abuelita will start rolling in her grave if we do? Yeah, Tom Segura doesn’t care, and he voices all of these sordid thoughts with blunt musings of porn, parking lot power struggles, parenthood, and more.
Cristela Alonzo: Lower Classy
Want to feel identified AF? Cristela Alonzo navigates through Latinx stereotypes, pricey luxuries, and her mother’s tough-love parenting — if you never got hit by a chancla, did you even have a Latinx childhood? — with her sly and infectious comedy.
Gabriel Iglesias: I’m Sorry for What I Said When I Was Hungry
Gabriel Iglesias might be sorry for what he said when he was hungry (hey, I get it, I become a different person when I’m hungry), but we’re happy he let it all out in this incredibly funny special where he tackles everything from racist gift baskets, Prius-driving cops, and all-female taco trucks.
Tom Segura: Mostly Stories
We already know we’re in for a dose of realness when it comes to Tom Segura. This time around he gets real about body piercings, the “Area 51” of men’s bodies, and the lie he told Mike Tyson. We’re definitely in for a hilariously wild ride.
Fred Armisen: Standup for Drummers
This one goes out for the music lovers. Fred Armisen shares and demonstrates his thoughts on music genres, drummer quirks, regional accents, and a lot more.
Anjelah Johnson: Not Fancy
Anjelah Johnson’s routine might not be fancy, but it’s not hard to relate to it, especially when she tackles nail salons and all the chisme that gets told. The actress, comedian, and YouTube sensation also goes out to riff about Gypsies, Mexican moms, and super-sleuthing Liam Neeson.
