After earning a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media Studies in the Dominican Republic, Maria moved to New York City —where she currently lives — to study Musical Theatre. However, it wasn’t long after she graduated from New York Film Academy that she found herself writing for a living.

Her career quickly rose, mostly covering human-interest stories, Latin music and entertainment, beauty, and wellness. She started as a reporter and became the editor of Latin Times, a site tailored for English speaking millennials in the Hispanic/Latinx American community, followed by a stint at POPSUGAR, the #1 female lifestyle brand in the US, as their Lead Editor for the Latina vertical.

Under her leadership, POPSUGAR Latina solidified its status as a culture and lifestyle space for the modern, young Latina, highlighting customs, traditions, interests, achievements, and more, while bringing quality representation into the current global landscape.

Through her work as a writer/editor, Maria found herself navigating towards music and strengthening relationships with music industry people from record labels to artists, as she’d write about them, highlighting their projects.

This caught the attention of Music Publicist & Consultant Cristina Novo-Bernal, who gave Maria an opportunity to debut as a Music Publicist under her wing in her company, Artistry & Records.

There, she worked on positioning high-profile celebrity clients within the US Latin market, using her contacts to secure their placement in relevant media, and creating and executing publicity strategies.

Her hard-earned reputation and the experience gained led her to accept an offer for a Publicist position at H+M Communications where she’s leading publicity efforts for music clients, and assisting with high-profile entertainment accounts as well.

At the same time, she’s been working on her passion project, New Musica Latina, the source for Latin music’s latest news, releases, award shows, and more, which she dedicates her spare time to.
