CNCO’s MTV VMAs Debut Performance Included a Major Throwback

CNCO made sure their MTV VMAs debut performance was one for Latin music history. Taking a page off NSync’s “Girlfriend” music video from 2001 — the year Erick Brian was born! — they took advantage of Brooklyn’s Skyline Drive-In, the special location sponsored by Toyota, to show off their signature smooth choreography and high energy stage presence, while performing their latest release, “Beso” on top of the cars.

After being cooped up for months during quarantine, they began teasing fans with an unidentified 14-second audio right before they made their first public appearance together during Univision’s Premios Juventud on August 13, where they performed their hit “Honey Boo” and showed their fans the downtime helped them become stronger performers.

Last Friday, that mysterious audio took form in their new single “Beso,” which shot straight to #1 on Apple Music’s Latin Songs chart, as well as trended at #7 worldwide on YouTube. Tonight, not only did we get to see the first live performance of this song, but we also got a glimpse of the choreography, which promises to be another viral Tik Tok sensation.

To prove that CNCO is fully back and ready to keep going, they took home their first moonperson for Best Quarantine Performance, for a virtual MTV Unplugged they put together from their homes back in May. In this category, CNCO beat out heavy weights including Lady Gaga, Post Malone, and John Legend, consolidating their global superstar status, while making all Latinx proud.
